Suicide Awareness Month

Around 720,000 people die as a result of suicide every year according to the WHO.  Another shocking statistic is that suicide is one of the top three causes of death among young people aged between 15-29 years of age.

Suicide is more common in the springtime and on New Years day. Studies carried out regarding the link between Suicide and spring season state that suicide rates increase when the pollen count increases . These studies cite the link between inflammation and mood disorders . During springtime our bodies have an increased rate of inflammatory responses. Forms of therapy to try and alleviate suicidal thoughts are Cognitive Behavioral   therapy CBT AND Dialectal behavioral therapy DBT which deals with very intense emotions . This has been found to be somewhat successful in reducing suicidal thoughts in adolescents.
